Club Meeting Report: June 2026

We had the pleasure of welcoming back Russ Miles with his presentation 'Wildlife on Farms Reservoirs'. Russ' incredible imagery of the avian wildlife in and around the reservoir, along with his passion and knowledge of his subject matter, made for a most enjoyable evening. We also caught a small glimpse of his stunning hare photography.

After the break we reviewed the “People” project images. They certainly came in a vast variety of shapes, sizes and poses. The PlusONE section provided its usual excellent selection.

All the images have been uploaded to the Club’s website and voting is now open. Please ensure you have voted by 11.59pm on Sunday, 21st June.

The next project is “In The Frame“ which is open to interpretation, so allow your imagination to conjure up different variations on this topic. Submissions for this project and a PlusONE entry, will be required by 11.59pm on Sunday 5th July by email to: [email protected]

The next meeting is on Thursday 9th July when we will have our 15 Minute Challenge. Please do remember to bring your cameras or smart phones to the meeting, and be ready for a wander.

Before the next meeting, we have the Armed Forces Day on the 20th June at Oaklands Park. The Club will have a stand there, so do pop in and say hello whilst you take advantage of the photo opportunities.

Thanks to Jean, Barbara and Nigel for manning the kitchen, and Trevor for manning the door.

As I step down as Chairman, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the past year and a half. It's been a real pleasure. I'd like to welcome Graham as the new Chairman, and look forward to seeing you all at future meetings.

Best Wishes.

Dirk

Members' Favourite Photographs of the Month: May 2026

The votes are in, and the results for the 'Bokeh' Project can be seen above.

Congratulations go to Andrew Scott with his image 'The Storm is Passing - Westminster Bridge' for receiving the most votes, followed by four images all receiving an equal number of votes! Congratulations to Graham Elliott with his image 'Daffodil Bokeh', Trevor Allnutt with his image 'King Fisher', Carol Drew with her image 'Water Droplets', and Nick Farrer with his image 'Fun Fungi'.

The PlusONEs were equally popular, with Stewart Weller's image 'Smoking Tulip', coming in as the firm favourite, followed by Phil Heading's image 'Incoming Gannett'. Congratulations to you both.

The feedback for this project can be seen in the slide above.

We received a total of 17 member votes this month, so many thanks to all who took the time to place your votes.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 11th June, when we will be joined by guest speaker Russ Miles with his talk 'Wildlife on a Farms Reservoir', along with a review of our current project 'People'.

All the best,

Dirk

Photoshoot - Kent Reflection Pool Hide: May 2026

The Club Photoshoot at the Kent Reflection Pool Hide on Friday, 8th May, was blessed with fine weather. The venue offers a bird hide which can accommodate two people at a time, and can be booked for 1 or 2 hour sessions. We booked the whole day and the club subsidised the cost. 12 Club members were thus able to enjoy the opportunity to undertake wildlife photography, which for some was a new experience and fresh challenge. The pool attracts a variety of passerine birds, although squirrels were ever present!

It proved to be an enjoyable initiative and one the club hopes to repeat, given the positive feedback from those who attended.

Photoshoot - Bilsington Priory: April 2026

For once I managed to arrange a photoshoot with decent weather. A party of twenty from the club met at Bilsington Priory for afternoon tea and a walk through the 500 acre estate, which included the bluebell woods. From the gallery you can see that there were many different photo opportunities and club members seemed to have enjoyed the location and weather. I am grateful to them for supporting the event which was organised by Pilgrims Hospice and attracted 170 people and raised over £2,000.
