OUR MEMORABLE PHOTOGRAPHS (2nd Edition)
The club held its monthly meeting yesterday evening (14th November 2024)
when five club members - Carol Drew, Peter Savage, Dirk Seyfried, Nigel Tarry and Stewart Weller - shared with us some photographs that have special significance for them and provided an insight
into why those photographs were important. The topics ranged from a view of Gibraltar from HMS Ark Royal, to a Morgan sports car, a nocturnal expedition into the wide-open spaces of Namibia and a
black bear looking for his lunch in the Canadian Rockies. It was a very interesting evening and thanks are due to all five participants and to James who put the presentation slides together. The
next edition will be 12th June 2025 and I am looking for willing volunteers.

OUR MEMORABLE PHOTOGRAPHS (1st Edition)
At the club meeting on the 9th May 2024, John Chapman, Phil Heading, Trevor Allnutt, Graham Elliott, Peter Brun and James Willmott presented a selection of their most memorable photographs. It turned out to be a fascinating evening and a reminder of the importance to capture those moments in life that may never be repeated again. Each of their photographs is now supported with text to explain the background and importance of these photographs.
As John Chapman (chairman) put it: "We have all accumulated a vast number of photographs in print, film, slide or digital format and in many cases, these are viewed once or twice then filed away to collect dust in the innermost recesses of a cupboard or computer never to be seen again. Many of these photographs may carry great significance having captured a special moment in our lives that can never be repeated. The idea was suggested by Phil Heading that a selection of club members could share some images from their archives and say why they have a special significance for them. Those stories were all different, reflecting the wide range of interests of the presenters and covered, inter alia, visits to the pyramids and a safari holiday, a lifelong love of wildlife photography, a passionate interest in motor racing and in particular the great driver Jim Clark, a love of railways and a strange desire to organise camping holidays and days out for groups of friends travelling in an old bus and a lifelong interest in boats. It all proved, graphically, how important it is to use photography to capture particular moments as we wander through life: what is commonplace or mundane now will, one day, be history”.
